These “Things to Do” blogs used to be more frequent, but with the pandemic limiting large, in-person events, it wasn’t as necessary. Fear not! With Oregon reopen, many large events are back on and we’re excited to share with you some of our picks for things to do in Sunriver during August 2021. It feels so good to be getting back to relative normalcy and celebrating mask-free at various events throughout Central Oregon. If you’ll be visiting Sunriver in August, we’ve got your guide to what’s happening during your visit.

If you haven’t checked out the calendar of live music coming to Bend’s Les Schwab Amphitheater, you may be missing out on seeing your favorite bands! We wrote a blog last month detailing the lineup and believe us, it’s non-stop good vibes all summer long.

Munch and Music 
August 5 and August 12, 2021
Drake Park, Bend

This annual live music event has taken place in Drake Park for the past 30 years, pandemic year aside. This free, family-friendly event takes place multiple Thursdays throughout the summer and features live music, artisan vendors, food carts and events for the kiddos. On August 5, The Talbott Brothers and Sleepless Truckers perform. On August 12, check out popular local bands Precious Byrd and The Shining Dimes.

First Friday Art Walk

Downtown Bend

First Friday is back! This popular event occurs on the first Friday of every month and features local and national art at dozens of businesses in Downtown Bend. Wander the streets downtown and view art exhibitions, openings, talks, live music, wine and snacks. This monthly event is free. Shops are matched with artists and stay open later than usual.

Sunriver Quilt Show

The Village at Sunriver

Stop by The Village at Sunriver on Saturday, August 7, and view more than 200 beautiful quilts on display in front of the stores and restaurants. All of the quilts are for viewing, while some are also available for sale. Visit vendors with unique items for sale. The Sunriver Quilt Show is presented by The Village at Sunriver and the Mountain Meadow Quilt Guild. This is the 32nd annual event!

Sunriver Art Fair

The Village at Sunriver

Enjoy live entertainment and family fun at the Sunriver Art Fair. This event, sponsored by the Sunriver Women’s Club, helps support non-profit organizations in South Deschutes County. Come down to the Art Fair and buy art directly from local artisans. New for 2021, the Fair will include an online shopping event from August 13 – September 26, 2021.

Gravicross 2021
August 13 – 15, 2021
Mt. Bachelor

Adventure junkies! This is your event! Gravicross smashes together bikes, downhill riding, XC racing, slope-styling and gravel-grinding into one rad event! Gravicross takes place at the bike park at Mt. Bachelor and includes approximately 5 miles of next level fun. Riders navigate over uphill climbs, downhill sections, bike park features, drops, berns, rock gardens, and other obstacles. Multiple divisions with different time allotments. Fast rider wins, with time bonuses for different obstacles.

Stars Over Newberry
August 13, 2021
Lava Butte

The annual late-summer fundraiser for Discover Your Forest, Stars Over Newberry invites guests to the top of Lava Butte for an incredible evening under the night sky. Listen to live music, eat and drink your way through Pacific Northwest edible highlights and enjoy a guided tour of the sky during the Perseid meteor shower. This event raises funds for public lands.

The Sunriver Music Festival has been a landmark event for more than 40 years. This year, the Festival heads into it’s 44th season and has to be nimble due to current Covid-19 guidelines. The Festival takes place outdoors this year, with concerts at SHARC’s Amphitheater and at Besson Commons at Sunriver Resort. Kelly Kuo and Brett Mitchell serve as the Artistic Directors for this year’s festival. They’ll share the stage for the special Pops concert on Wednesday, August 18!

8th Annual Prairie Barn Vintage Market
August 20-21, 2021
Iverson Ranch, Prineville

Formerly known as the Prineville Vintage Market, The 8th Annual Prairie Barn Vintage Market features live music, food, beer and 50 hand-picked vintage vendors. Vendors will have antiques, vintage, repurposed, up-cycled and homemade/handmade items. Tickets are available on their website and children under 12 are free!

Theater in the Park: Into the Woods
August 20 and 21, 2021
Drake Park

Theater in the Park returns to Drake Park with the 1986 Broadway musical “Into the Woods” by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. You may remember the movie, which was adapted for the screen in 2014. The fantasy musical combines classic Grimm Brothers fairy tales — “Cinderella”, “Jack and the Beanstalk”, “Rapunzel” and “Little Red Riding Hood”.

Cascade Car Show
August 21, 2021
Wild Ride Brewing, Redmond

This car show highlights all show-quality vehicles, which means all years, makes and models are able to participate! You’ll be in for a variety of show-quality vehicles from across the decades at the Cascade Car Show at Wild Ride Brewing in Redmond. Bring your vehicle to the show for a $20 entry fee, or just come admire the machinery, as the event is free to the public. Food trucks will be onsite at Wild Ride, too!

Airshow of the Cascades, Madras

Get an up close look at the largest privately owned collection of vintage Warbirds in the world at Erickson Aircraft Collection. Experience glider and helicopter rides as well as fireworks on Friday, great food, live music from Precious Byrd and much more. View the Fly-In air show, visit the car show and indulge in the fish and chips dinner on Friday night (while it lasts!).

There’s plenty of fun things to do when you visit Sunriver in August 2021 and beyond. From concerts by your favorite bands to vintage markets, air shows and more, there’s something for everyone in your group to enjoy.
